Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire, a quiet community in the West Island of Montreal is something you could call a "sleepy" area. The West Island can be confusing for those who aren't familiar of its purpose. They often believe it's an island to the to the west of Montreal However, the West Island encompasses everything between the cities of Lachine and West. Amanda Brugel is said to have been born on the West Island, although this is not true. Brugel developed on Courtice located just outside Oshawa in Ontario. At the beginning of her life she wanted to be a performer but an unexpected expansion of her body made it impossible. A Toronto Star article revealed she's 6 feet 1 inch tall and has heels. The moment I outgrew my male counterpart, I stopped. Many ex-dancers switch to acting. For Brugel it was because of the advice by her drama instructor at her high school which pushed her in the direction she wanted. It was the teacher who recommended she go after a role in the school's annual production. She tried out and ended up playing the lead in Anne of Green Gables. This led to her being awarded the Fine Arts Talent Scholarship from York University. In 2000 she graduated with a Master of Fine Arts at York University. Since then, Brugel's been performing in over 60 plays, large and small. Most notable was when she landed Rita's role on The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel was the character Rita in The Handmaid's Tale the series filmed over ten years ago.
